I have decided to focus my ceramic work on themes that are prevalent in Hispanic culture. The reason I have decided to focus on this theme is mainly because Hispanic culture is a big part of who I am and what I know. I will attempt to create work that shows not only what I have personally experienced but also hot topics within the Latino community and culture. I will use a lot of metaphorical symbolism in my work. My intent will be to create scenes/sculptures based off of memories, stories and themes that surrounded me growing up. I would like my work to be recognized as Hispanic art. This theme is important to me because as a Latino I feel like it is very important to speak on Hispanic life through my art. My intent is to romanticize and celebrate my Hispanic culture, perspective, and memories but also to draw attention to Hispanic subcultural and political issues.
